What kind of health problems do you treat at your clinic
Lynda specialises in the treatment of women's health issues. Commonly these include menstrual problems (painful periods; lack of periods; heavy periods); premenstrual syndrome (PMS); menopausal difficulties including hot flushes, night sweats and mood disorders; infertility; and hormonal migraine. Other commonly treated conditions include mental and emotional problems such as depression, stress and anxiety; sleep problems; digestive problems; asthma; and musculo-skeletal injuries including back and neck strain, tennis elbow and shoulder and hip injuries. back to top Do you treat only women? No, both women and men are seen at the clinic. However, because of Lynda's special expertise in the area of women's health, the majority of patients are female. back to top How are young children treated? For children under the age of five or six, laser acupuncture is used to provide "needle free" treatment. There is no discomfort or sensation with the treatment, which is also suitable to use in the treatment of babies. back to top Is Lynda ACC Registered? Lynda is a member of the New Zealand Register of Acupuncturists (MNZRA), and as such is also a registered ACC treatment provider. ACC subsidised treatment of injuries is provided upon referral by a GP. back to top What will happen on my first visit? A first consultation will usually take one hour. During this time an extensive case history is taken. The remainder of the consultation usually involves naturopathic advice, focussed on establishing a healthy diet, exercise and stress management regime for you. A personalised regime is designed for you, using nutritional supplements and/or Chinese or western herbs. After the initial consultation a further appointment will be made to begin a course of acupuncture treatment, if you so wish. back to top Does acupuncture hurt? Acupuncture is usually a painfree, pleasant experience. There is sometimes a minimal pricking sensation when the needles are first applied. However, the needles are very fine, unlike the hollow hypodermic needles we are used to encountering at the doctors! Once the needles are inserted, they are gently stimulated. During this time there may be a sensation of heaviness or generalised mild aching around the needle. This is a mild and temporary sensation, caused by the stimulation of the energy (qi) in the acupuncture meridian. back to top How do I know that the needles are sterile? All acupuncture is performed using disposable needles so there is absolutely no possibility of cross transference of infection from other patients. back to top How many acupuncture treatments will I need? This is a very difficult question to answer. Depending on your condition, you may need as few as two treatments, or as many as twenty. Generally, for acute injuries you will need somewhere between four and ten treatments. For chronic, ongoing conditions more visits may be required over an extended period of time. Generally, it is possible to answer this question more accurately following your initial consultation. back to top How will I feel after an acupuncture treatment? Acupuncture stimulates the release of natural opiate like substances in the brain. This causes you to feel deeply relaxed, and sometimes a little tired after an acupuncture treatment. With acute injuries the acupuncture will sometimes make the discomfort temporarily more acute, for a day or so. This is usually followed by a marked improvement. back to top How much does it cost to consult with Lynda? There is a sliding fee scale, with a reduced charge for children, students, and beneficiaries. For a detailed fee structure, please contact us by telephone or email. back to top
