She is a health columnist for several publications in both New Zealand and Australia, and is the author of the woman's health book, "Be Well Naturally". Lynda relates (from the foreword of Well-Being) "My Journey of Wellbeing"
For the past twenty years I have had the privilege of working with women from all walks of life, in my role as a naturopath and Traditional Chinese Acupuncturists. These women have sought help for a wide range of female health related conditions including hormonal imbalance, menstrual disorders, PMS, infertility, and menopausal issues. Often these health problems have developed gradually after years of living a life of “imbalance”. Poor nutrition, lack of exercise, chronic stress, structural imbalance and emotional problems frequently combine to gradually downgrade the health and vitality of our body, mind and spirit. My job has been to understand the intricate interconnection of such variables, and to piece together the different puzzle of imbalance effecting an individual woman. Having understood the underlying contributors, to then teach, inform, and empower a woman to take responsibility for genuine lifestyle change. Invariably this involves making different choices on a daily basis – often taking tiny steps which cumulatively lead to a restoration of wellbeing. I am a driven communicator and have had much personal satisfaction from my parallel career as a health researcher and writer. While working with an individual woman brings its own rewards, I take special joy in knowing that once the written word is released into the world, it has untold potential to ripple out and touch many lives in unforeseen ways. Creating my third woman's health book, Wellbeing has been especially rewarding for me. While I believe that all the information and teaching in the book is valuable to every woman, the extensive focus on breast cancer prevention is especially exciting when I consider the potential “ripples” from this book. During my twenty years in clinical practice I have worked with many women on the challenging journey of breast cancer recovery. Many of them have found me after the completion of their orthodox medical treatment. Some have had a mastectomy, many have undergone radiotherapy or chemotherapy. Having completed their treatment, they are often left dis empowered and fearful of an eventual return of their cancer. Discovering that there are very many proactive steps that can be taken to minimise such an occurrence has been an emotional revelation for many of my breast cancer patients. It is hugely rewarding to see such fear replaced with an enthusiastic desire to do all it takes to turn around their life and wellbeing; to accept personal responsibility for the journey of wellness and to move forward with hope and optimism. Wellbeing contains 90 pages devoted to helping you create a lifestyle designed to optimise your breast health. Understanding the multitude of variables which can impact on your breast cancer risk is the first step in applying the “precautionary principle”. Such variables as nutrition, exercise, weight, smoking, hormonal medicines, sleep, stress, antibiotics, alcohol and much more are considered from a science based perspective. Step by step clear recommendations for preventative breast health make Wellbeing an invaluable guide for every woman and her daughters. Wellbeing is the culmination of 20 years of clinical practice as an acupuncturist and naturopath, and just as many years as a health researcher and writer. It is designed to help you make health giving choices in your own life so that you can reap the reward of optimum health and vitality. Written in an easy to read style, Wellbeing can sit on your book case and be pulled out time and time again as your holistic reference guide to good health. |
